Voting Accessibility

Federal laws protect your right to vote:

  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965
  • Voting Accessibility for the Elderly and Handicapped Act of 1984
  • National Voter Registration Act of 1993
  • Help America Vote Act of 2002

How do I register to vote?

You can receive help registering to vote by reaching out to any office that provides programs or public assistance to people with disabilities. There is a deadline to register for each election. Contact your local disability advocacy office for further assistance.

What are my accessibility rights?

Polling Places are legally required to be accessible: including, but not limited to allowing service animals, providing voting modification opportunities to those who are deaf, hard of hearing, or visually impaired, or providing a chair to those who may not be able to stand for long periods of time. To learn more about what modifications are available, please contact your local disability advocacy office.

What if I cannot vote in person on election day?

You can request an absentee ballot or vote early (depending on your state) if you are unable to vote in-person on election day.
